Our Picture Library is one of the world's finest collections of photography, artwork and mapping, and records over 500 years of travel, people, place and geographical discovery.
We are a member of BAPLA, and provide picture research and licensing services.
Our Picture Library comprises over 750,000 photographic images dating from 1850 and the largest private map collection in the world with over 1 million maps dating from 1486.
Our images are highly sought after for use in the publishing, broadcasting, advertising and education industries. Enquiries are dealt with by a highly experienced and knowledgeable team, which prides itself on providing the best possible quality of service.
Search our online database of over 8,000 images by keyword, or browse themed galleries. By registering you are able to create, view and send lightboxes and order images.
For images not yet digitised and in the online database, we can carry out a picture research on your behalf. We may charge a fee for this.
Scanning and photography of images is subject to the condition of the original and an appropriate fee.
We are happy to supply you with a licence fee quote for proposed usage. Reduced rates may be offered for academic research projects, lectures or other strictly non-profit activities.
We sell limited edition prints on demand and are happy to consider requests for one-off prints. Certain images may be unavailable for copyright or preservation reasons.
Our film collection is stored at the British Film Institute (BFI) and footage is available through Archival Footage Sales at the BFI. Please contact them directly.
