The RGS-IBG Annual International Conference 2023 will be chaired by Professor Harriet Bulkeley (Durham University, UK), with the Chair's theme of Climate changed geographies.
With the theme Climate changed geographies the RGS-IBG 2023 conference invites a conversation about how climate change is, and is not, changing our discipline – our ways of knowing, exploring, understanding and acting geographically – and with what consequences. It also opens up debates about the kinds of geographies – urban, political, social, cultural, economic, regional, glacial, fluvial and more – that are and are not being changed by climate change.

The conference will take place in London and online, from the evening of Tuesday 29 August to Friday 1 September 2023.

We are delighted to be piloting new hubs models at this year's conference. The ‘hubs’ model is an approach designed to combat fatigue with online conferences, while still benefiting from some of the opportunities online participation offers for accessibility, inclusivity, and sustainability. Regional groups are encouraged to meet in local hubs to have in-person experiences, connected to a wider online event.
This year we are introducing a new registration fee category of remote viewing hub, and a distributed Chair's plenary on Wednesday 30 August.

About the conference
The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) is the learned society and professional body for geography.
We are committed to the importance of international collaboration in research, scholarship, teaching and field science and the value of sharing ideas, understanding and perspectives widely.
The annual conference is international in nature and outlook. Each year we welcome hundreds of colleagues from around the world, with a third of attendees coming from outside the UK. We are committed to continuing this open and outward-facing approach, and particularly welcome contributions by international delegates to the conference programme.
Future conferences
Next year’s conference will be in London, Tuesday 27 to Friday 30 August 2024, at the Society and chaired by Stephen Legg, University of Nottingham. More on the theme, key dates and timelines will be published in October and November 2023.
