Research by Felix Driver and Lowri Jones
Hidden Histories of Exploration was an AHRC-funded collaboration between Royal Holloway University of London and the RGS-IBG, which ran from 2006-2009, and culminated in a major exhibition at the Society from 15 October to 10 December 2009.
The project began as an AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award, completed by Lowri Jones. This was then followed by an AHRC Museums, Galleries and Libraries Award to PI Professor Felix Driver (Royal Holloway, University of London).
Departing from standard narratives of British explorers and expeditions, the project focused on the remarkable contribution of local inhabitants and indigenous peoples to histories of exploration.
