The Society has a series of policies that guide our work.
Our advocacy policy applies to anyone acting on our behalf.
We maintain regular scrutiny of environmental, social and corporate governance performance in our investments.
We report annually on our approach to, and performance on, a range of sustainability and environmental issues.
We report annually on our approach to, and performance on, a broad range of equality, diversity and inclusion issues.
The Society is dedicated to the advancement of geographical science and its application to the challenges facing the world’s people, places and environments. We are a charity registered with the UK’s Charity Commission, a learned society, a professional body and a membership organisation.
Given the constraints of our Charter, the requirements of the Charity Commission and our policy on advocacy and lobbying, the Society is limited to making public statements on or about geography.
Academic freedom is central to the Society's mission of advancing geographical science.
Many geographers in HEIs across the UK are affected by ongoing disputes based around their working conditions and pension provisions.
We are concerned at reports that several university geography departments are under threat of closure.
Our code of conduct sets out the principles of behaviour that govern all Fellows and members.
Sexual harassment, abuse of position and coercive behaviours have no place in the academic community.
