Written by Professor Steve Pile (The Open University), the book sets out a new way for geographers to think about how everyday political forces shape different kinds of bodies. In the book, Steve draws significantly on the works of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Ranciere, and illustrates these ideas with a variety of examples, from Hollywood films to the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
Steve said of the book: “I want to understand the cultural politics that emerges from the conflict between bodily regimes as they seek to organise and control bodies and affects, socially and geographically. I chose the RGS-IBG book series to engage directly with geographical debates about embodiment, space and power.”
