Danny Dorling, Halford Mackinder Professor of Geography at the University of Oxford, gives a School Members Lecture on social inequalities at the Society.
One of the benefits of School Membership is that pupils from School Members are able to attend the Society’s popular School Member Lecture series. Given by leading geographers once a term, these lectures provide an opportunity for school pupils to engage with, and be inspired by, the research geographers are doing and where geography can take them.
Danny Dorling’s autumn term lecture was attended by more than 500 students from over 50 schools. His talk considered the geographical evidence which suggests that social inequalities are high in some countries rather than others because of particular traditions, economic circumstances and political outcomes, and highlighted the important role that geographers can play in understanding and contributing to debates about inequality.
Danny’s lecture will be available to view online shortly, alongside our existing range of resources for School Members. Available online, Society resources for School Members are linked to both GCSE and A Level specifications and detail how they can be used by teachers in lesson plans.
Wider resources and support for School Members is available from the Society’s School Members Area.
