New data shows the destinations for UK geography graduates who completed their course in the 2020/21 academic year, highlighting the range of sectors and career paths available to those studying geography at university.
The data, collected by HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency) as part of its annual graduate outcomes survey, was gathered 15 months after students graduated and shows geography graduates working across 19 broad sectors – ranging from information and communication to mining and quarrying.
The top three sectors that Geography, Earth, and Environmental Studies graduates were working in when surveyed are:

Public administration and defence, compulsory social security
The top three sectors remained the same for Geography, Earth and Environmental Studies graduates regardless of a degree focus on natural or social science, with slight differences in the proportions working in each sector observed across the two groups, as shown in the figures below.
