The newest addition to the RGS-IBG book series, Defensible Space on the Move: Mobilisation in English Housing Policy and Practice, is now available to order online.
Written by Professor Loretta Lees and Dr Elanor Warwick, the book examines how the idea of defensible space moved from the US into English housing policy and practice. It is a deliberately trans-disciplinary book, as the inherently geographical concept ‘defensible space’ entered criminology, architecture, and urban planning.
Informed by archival research, oral histories and interviews, interpretation and implementations of defensible space are investigated at different scales and at different times. Through this, the authors contribute to ongoing work on policy mobilities, being amongst the first to specifically outline how policy transfer mechanisms actually work at both a policy and practitioner level.
