As an early career scholar, Azeezat Johnson received several awards and was widely published. She joined the School of Geography at Queen Mary as a lecturer after completing her PhD at the University of Sheffield in 2017.
Her outstanding research on Black geographies, home, intersectionality, care, gender and embodiment will continue to challenge white structures of power in academia. Azeezat was a founding member of Sheffield’s Critical Race and Ethnicity Black Feminist network and the Geography and Embodiment (GEM) Collective, a driving force for change and collaborative working.
A full tribute for Azeezat can be found on the QMUL and in Race, Culture and Equality Working Group websites.
