The Society is excited to announce that Earth Photo 2023 is open for entries, inviting submissions from still and moving image makers of all ages, from anywhere in the world, who have a compelling story to share about our planet.
This year brings some exciting changes. In 2023, for the first time, submissions are completely open, and we’re encouraging practitioners working in all genres of photography and film to send us their submissions that make us think differently about the world around us by capturing nature, people, place, forests, the environment, lands and seascapes, or the varied impacts of, and adaptations to, climate change.
Alongside this we are introducing a selection of new awards, including:
-
£1,000 for an outstanding photography project
-
£500 for a project that explores the impacts of climate change
-
£200 and publication in an upcoming book with Forestry England and Cultureshock
-
£250 each to one photographer and one moving image maker under the age of 25
We’ve also arranged collaborations with national and international arts organisations, including the Sidney Nolan Trust and Lishui International Photography Festival, China, to increase exposure and opportunities for practitioners and audiences alike.
A selection of shortlisted works will be displayed in our Pavilion from 26 June to 23 August. Further exhibitions will take place at Forestry England locations later in the year, including Moors Valley Country Park and Forest, Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest, Dalby Forest, Haldon Forest Park, and Grizedale Forest.
Submitted photographs and films will be judged by a panel of experts chaired by Louise Fedotov-Clements, National Curator of Contemporary Art at Forestry England and Co-Founder/Patron, FORMAT International Photography Festival.
Individuals and collectives are encouraged to submit up to 10 images, as singles or a series. In addition to photography, we welcome short films between five seconds and five minutes long.
The deadline for entries is Tuesday 2 May, 5.00pm.
