The Society has awarded accreditation to Master’s degree programmes for the first time. Three programmes at Royal Holloway, University of London (MSc Quaternary Science) and Swansea University (MSc Environmental Dynamics and Climate Change and MSc Geographic Information and Climate Change) have received this recognition, after the Society accepted applications from Master’s degree programmes for the first time this autumn. Through the scheme, the Society aims to recognise good practice in geography learning and teaching across UK higher education, while supporting continuous quality improvement and promoting good student outcomes across the sector.
Dr Iain Robertson from Swansea University said: “We are so pleased to be one of the first postgraduate programmes to be accredited by the Society. Accreditation by this highly respected professional body ensures that our courses are at the forefront of a rapidly changing field and remain relevant to society at large.”
Dr Bethan Davies from Royal Holloway said: “We are very proud of our MSc in Quaternary Science, which has been run through the Centre for Quaternary Research at Royal Holloway, University of London since 1995, and we are delighted that its breadth, the development of student technical and research skills and the focus on student employability has been recognised with this accreditation.”
The Society launched an undergraduate programme accreditation scheme in 2016, with programmes at over 50 UK universities now accredited.
The next deadline for applications (both undergraduate and Master’s) is 31 March 2021.
