The newest addition to the RGS-IBG book series, Geomorphology and the Carbon Cycle, is now available to order online.
Written by Professor Martin Evans (University of Manchester), the book offers the first systemic examination of the role of geomorphological processes in the cycling of carbon through the terrestrial system. Informed by work in ecology, microbiology and biogeochemistry and integrating classical geomorphological theory, the book considers the ways in which the application of this science has the potential to manage the terrestrial carbon cycle to limit increases in atmospheric carbon.
Martin said of his book: “Geomorphological processes shape the landscapes we live in. These landscapes are not just a passive background to biological cycling of terrestrial carbon - processes of erosion and sedimentation and the landforms they create directly influence the storage and release of carbon. This book aims to bring together geomorphological knowledge and work on the biogeochemistry of the terrestrial carbon cycle to develop understanding of, and to advance a research agenda around, landscape scale carbon cycling.”
