Latest research published in the Society’s journals: March 2019

The latest issues of the Society’s scholarly journals are now available online.

This quarter’s issue of Area includes a special section on materialities and historical geography. As well as featuring papers on this theme, which include bridge building on the Thames, post-war London fashion and the historical geography of religious experience, this issue also features research on a wide range of other geographical topics including a piece on fieldwork, mental health and wellbeing in geographical disciplines.

The Geographical Journal also has a themed section this issue on the policy and politics of fire management in Latin America. Papers featured in this section include research on fire policy in the savannahs of Brazil and Venezuela, if criminalising fire hinders conservation work in Brazil, and ways of addressing conflicting views on wildfire risk management in Bolivia. Other topics covered in this issue include migration, e-waste, and coastal management. 

A wide range of papers have been published in the latest issue of Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers, including wild boar management in the Netherlands, the geographies of human trafficking and, among others, desalination in Singapore.

Finally, Geo: Geography and environment has recently published papers on the biogeography of bacteria and fungi in Austria, the politics of the ‘zoom’ feature in climate visualisations, and the lengths tourists are going to in order to witness volcanic eruptions.
