We are delighted that our Migrants on the margins resources have been awarded the 4-star award, in the Curriculum Impact category, of the Teach Secondary 2019 Awards.
The awards recognise and celebrate the very best resources available for secondary schools and has seven categories, including the curriculum impact for resources ‘that will change the way a particular subject is taught and/or boost students’ progress in that subject’.
Our award-winning resources, which are supported by the Global Learning Programme, provide a wider context to our Field Research Programme Migrants on the margins, and focus on a number of key concepts, including internal migration, how cities are changing and why people move. Including a set of posters, videos and podcasts, and comic books based on the lives of migrants the resources, which are suitable for KS3, GCSE and A Level, use case studies from each of the research programme’s study cities: Colombo in Sri Lanka, Dhaka in Bangladesh, Harare in Zimbabwe and Hargeisa in Somaliland.
Professor Michael Collyer, Principal Researcher for the project, hopes the research will help improve the lives of migrants in their neighbourhoods and dispel misconceptions around migration. This is a valuable lesson for schools, and the Migrants on the margins learning resources place the contemporary experiences of migrants within reach of the geography classroom.
