We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Julian Leyland as a new co-editor for our academic journal Area. Dr Leyland, who is Associate Professor in Physical Geography at the University of Southampton, will be responsible for physical and environmental geography submissions to the journal.
We are looking forward to working with Dr Leyland to build on Area’s strengths by raising the visibility of the journal within the physical geography community, improving the balance of contribution types, and developing early career opportunities for physical geographers.
Dr Leyland said of his appointment: “I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed the Physical and Environmental Geography editor for Area. The journal continues to publish high quality research and commentaries that shape debate within our discipline and, along with my co-editors, I look forward to the opportunity and challenge of guiding the direction of the journal during my tenure.”
We would like to thank Area’s outgoing co-editor Dr Robert Bryant, from the University of Sheffield, for his contributions to the journal over his four year term.
