New funding for research on our Collections

We are delighted to have received funding, as part of the Science Museums and Archives Consortium, for the third round of the Collaborative Doctoral Partnerships scheme funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

The scheme enables us to host PhD students and provide them with the opportunity to work on our Collections, through collaboration between a university-based researcher and staff at the Society. There have been 12 projects to date including work on indigenous contributions to the Society’s map collection; understanding the Society’s involvement in the geographical exploration of the Arctic regions; and exploring the relationships between family history and community heritage, focusing on those who migrated to post-war Britain.

We are looking forward to receiving research project proposals for this new round of funding over the coming months as well as to working with new Consortium partners, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
