Every year the House of Lords opens up the chamber and invites people from across the UK to take part in a lively, topical debate. As a partner in this year’s debate, the Society has a limited number of places available for Fellows and members.
Taking place on Friday 29 November, young people from around the UK as well as members of organisations including the Society, the Royal Meteorological Society and the English-Speaking Union, will come together for an inter-generational debate to explore answers to the question, ‘How can we reach a sustainable future?’.
In the morning, participants will attend a series of ‘conversations’, similar to a select committee hearing, where they will hear from a range of experts and have the opportunity to ask questions of them. After lunch in the Royal Gallery, participants will choose a debating position based on the morning’s evidence before taking part in the full debate in the chamber.
There is no need for any prior knowledge or expertise, and the House of Lords are looking for a diverse range of people to take part.
