Emily Penn is an ocean advocate dedicated to studying environmental challenges in the most remote parts of our planet. She is also an international public speaker and advisor on issues relating to our oceans as well as society’s interactions with them.
In this podcast episode, Emily talks about her recent work with eXXpedition, and her commitment to unveiling the issues of ocean plastics and female empowerment. She touches upon the lessons we can learn from living at sea, what she's doing in lockdown, and excitingly, a new platform that she's been working on, SHiFT. This platform will be released on World Ocean Day 2020 and works with individuals to target their actions to stop ocean plastic pollution.
Emily would have spoken at an event organised by regional volunteers which was cancelled due to lockdown restrictions. For more information on how you can get involved with the events and regional committees near you, please visit our Regional committess page.
About Geography now podcasts
Geography now is a new podcast series from the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG). In this series, we’ll be talking to geographers about the work that they’re doing, topics they’re passionate about, and opinions they have about the world around us.
At a time when it is impossible to host speakers at the Society, we are committed to creating content that can be accessed online, and are excited to feature individuals who would have spoken at our events around the UK.
