The Society’s Geography Scholarship Programme was first launched in September 2016, with funding from the Department for Education and provided outstanding trainees with financial and professional support, including: £27,500 tax-free funding, training events, materials and resources, Fellowship of the Society and membership of the Geographical Association, networking opportunities, and wider support to complement their teacher training.
Over 1,300 individuals started an application to the Programme and the Society awarded 111 Scholarships, following 12 assessment days. The Society has since held a Scholar Training Day and Residential Fieldwork Course over the summer, and will be hosting another training day and a networking evening for our Scholars over the coming year.
The Department for Education has confirmed that the Geography Scholarship Programme will continue in 2018-19, for trainees starting their teacher training in September 2018. Scholars will receive £28,000 tax-free funding, alongside an array of materials, resource and events to support them throughout their training year and into their teaching career.
