For over 160 years, explorers, travellers and adventurers have looked to us as map specialists to get them where they need to go, and back again.
When Edward Stanford set up as a map seller in 1853, he couldn’t have dreamt of where the journey would lead. He started off on the Strand and then a map shop on Cockspur Street, but before long he had to expand, ultimately moving to Covent Garden and our home on Long Acre, where we’ve been since 1901.
Today, every floor of our Victorian home is packed with maps, travel guides and inspirational travel writing; with beautiful hand-made globes and detailed atlases, as well as essential travel accessories for every occasion.
We bring people closer to the writers who have been there through our schedule of book events and signings. We help visitors to London explore more of the greatest city in the world and when they need a rest there’s always our Cafe for a cup of tea and a cake.
We offer site-specific digital mapping on demand, which means we can create bespoke wall maps that bring cartographic beauty into any home, or provide custom mapping for the most exacting of hikers.
One thing that has remained throughout our history is our staff’s passion and knowledge - not only as book and map sellers, but for travel and helping people discover, experience and share the wonders of the world.
