In celebration of Antarctica, the Society is holding a special event on Friday 5 February, entitled Across Antarctica: legendary leaders, which will showcase the accomplishments of two of Antarctica’s greatest explorers, Sir Ernest Shackleton and Sir Ranulph Fiennes.
This special evening, which forms part of the Society’s work to mark the centenary of the Endurance expedition, will feature archive footage of Sir Ernest Shackleton from the film South and a talk from Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who will recount an exhilarating life of expeditions.
Sir Ernest Shackleton led three early 20th century British expeditions to Antarctica and is perhaps best known today for the 1914–17 Endurance expedition, when he attempted to cross Antarctica via the pole. Sir Ranulph Fiennes has led numerous expeditions to Antarctica and is the holder of several endurance records.
Doors open to the event at 6.00pm. Ticket holders have exclusive after-hours access to the Society’s exhibition, Enduring Eye: The Antarctic Legacy of Sir Ernest Shackleton and Frank Hurley.
