The book offers one of the first detailed empirical studies of how and why London became the leading western financial centre within the wider Chinese project of internationalising its currency. It challenges traditional ideas about financial centres, and draws out the ways that economic and political relations between London and Beijing serve to establish territorial fixes for capital within the otherwise dynamic global financial system.
This panel discussion, chaired by Dr Ruth Craggs of King’s College London, brings together geographers including Professor Sarah Hall, Dr Annina Kaltenbruner from Leeds University Business School, Dr Pan Fenghua from Beijing Normal University, and Dr Ilias Alami from Maastricht University. The discussion will explore Respatialising Finance from multiple angles and suggest where its contributions might lead scholarship in economic geography in the future.
