A new exhibition, The art of politics: representing environmental challenges in the UK’s overseas territories, is now available for Fellows and members to view in the Director’s Gallery.
The art of politics features a range of Exeter-based artist Naomi Hart’s paintings representing the rich yet threatened marine and terrestrial biodiversity of Britain’s overseas territories. A result of a collaborative project between Naomi and human geographer Dr Nichola Harmer from the University of Plymouth, the paintings aim to evoke emotional responses to environmental concerns, and help bring into view political and spatial connections and influences which are often obscured by distance or abstraction. They represent the unprecedented awareness and foregrounding in parliamentary debate of the wealth of, and threats to, biodiversity in the overseas territories.
The art of politics is on display in the Director’s Gallery for Fellows and members to view Monday to Friday 10.00am till 5.00pm until Friday 1 April.
The exhibition and associated project have been funded by the Sustainable Earth Institute Creative Associates programme.
