The March editions of the Society’s journals Area, The Geographical Journal and Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers have now been published and are available to access online.
The journals publish papers from across the full spectrum of geography, each with a different remit – Area publishes short articles which contribute to understanding of a specific geographical issue or topic, Transactions publishes landmark contributions which serve to significantly shape the discipline, and The Geographical Journal publishes papers that use geographical knowledge and skills to address public issues. Highlights from the latest issue of each journal are included below.
In the latest issue of Area, papers on bicycle commuting during COVID-19, story mapping, and the role of cemeteries and crematoria in citizenship are accompanied by a special section on geopolitics and language, guest edited by Ingrid Medby and Pip Thornton.
The latest issue of The Geographical Journal contains two special sections – one reflects on the Antarctic Treaty, which turned 60 years old in 2019, and the other considers geographers’ engagement with the work of Lauren Berlant, who sadly passed away last year. Alongside these, the issue contains articles and commentaries that include a rapid analysis of the ethnicity data from the 2021 census, an analysis of visual portrayals of heatwaves, and commentaries on monkeypox and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s 2022 international development strategy.
The March issue of Transactions contains an editorial setting out a renewed vision for the journal, written by the full editorial team and board, as well as papers on trade union banners, environmental gentrification, and the campaign for a supervised drug injecting facility in Dublin.
The Society publishes four issues of Area, The Geographical Journal and Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers annually, alongside two issues of Geo: Geography and Environment.
