Research Group news: December 2021

The Society’s 32 Research Groups bring together active researchers and those with a professional interest in a particular aspect of geography and related disciplines. They each support and promote their area of geography through organising events, offering dissertation prizes, and providing support and funding for postgraduates.

Here is a round up of their recent activity:

• The Historical Geography Research Group held the first part of their Practicing historical geography symposium online on Wednesday 24 November. The second day will be held online on Wednesday 26 January, 12.00pm-3.00pm.

• The Quantitative Methods Research Group held a SAD Interview with Professor Sara Fabrikant on Tuesday 16 November. The next interview is scheduled for Tuesday 14 December, 4.00pm-5.00pm. 

• The Urban Geography Research Group held its 2021 conference on the 18 and 19 November on the theme of ‘cities of hope’.

• The Climate Change Geography Research Group held an event titled ‘Teaching the politics of climate change’ on Thursday 18 November.

• The Digital Geographies Research Group has published their latest ‘Work in progress’ video on their YouTube channel. In this video Robert Lundberg (Monash University) discusses the use of collage as research method within digital geographies.

• The Carceral Geography Working Group is holding their next online ‘Explorations in carceral geography’ seminar on Friday 17 December, 9.00am – 11.00am. Find out more and register online.
