Our Monday night lecture series for Fellows and members features Professor Andy Tatem as he explores the geography of disease dynamics, Monisha Rajesh recounts her seven month journey circumnavigating the world on the most remarkable railways, Society grant recipients Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent and Redzi Bernard discuss their travels in India, Myanmar and Ethiopia, and Sir Michael Palin tells the story of how he and his team overcame the difficulties to make a documentary series in one of the least visited countries in the world, as well as many more.
Meanwhile, our Collections-related events include talks on the iconic architecture and culture that defines New York as we know it today and the unarticulated narratives of women on David Livingstone’s expeditions.
Our talks and discussions include a focus on creating great travel videos, an insight into Antarctica’s unique geopolitical situation and the future of the continent, a look at the geopolitics of climate change, and our book club explores Merlin Sheldrake’s Entangled Life.
Events organised by our regional committees feature Daniel Raven-Ellison on developing a network of walking routes that connects Great Britain's towns and cities, Professor Tony Binns explores the crucial role of urban agriculture in post-conflict Sierra Leone, Rob and Harriet Fraser discuss how we connect to the places around us in light of environmental pressures, and Captain Luke Parker and Lisa Allen look at how coronavirus has thrust locational data and geospatial analysis onto the world stage, amongst many more.
