The Society has launched Professional Practice Groups, a new framework of support for professional geographers which brings together those with an interest and expertise in a thematic or sectoral area of professional geographical practice.
The Professional Practice Groups (PPGs) aim to support and promote specific areas of professional geographical practice, but their interests may overlap into education, policy, research and innovation.
It is anticipated that PPGs will offer this support through activities such as: organising networking and knowledge exchange events, offering mentoring opportunities, keeping members up to date with the latest developments in their field, and distributing news and information about relevant opportunities. It is hoped that the PPGs will also support and further enhance the professional development and lifelong learning of Chartered Geographers (CGeog), and those working towards the accreditation, by building stronger links within specific sectors or fields of work.
The framework for Professional Practice Groups is based upon, and complementary to, the Society's successful Research and Working Groups, some of which have been in operation for more than 40 years. Like those groups, PPGs will be encouraged to foster sector-specific networking and more in-depth and targeted professional development over a specified period of time.
