Professor Mike Hulme, founding Editor in Chief for the journal WIREs Climate Change, has announced his decision to step down from this role at the end of this year.
Mike has done a remarkable job as Editor in Chief leading the journal from its foundation to a position as one of the foremost outlets for climate change research - publishing more than 800 widely read and highly cited reviews, articles and commentaries. He has been supported by outstanding Domain Editors, an International Advisory Board, and the team at Wiley.
WIREs Climate Change offers a unique platform for exploring current and emerging knowledge from disciplines that contribute to our understanding of climate change – environmental history, the humanities, physical and life sciences, social sciences, engineering and economics. As part of the WIREs portfolio, the journal serves as a forum for review articles intended to survey and summarise the current state of knowledge in climate change.
Editor in Chief position – details and application instructions
We are looking for an Editor in Chief who is relatively senior, with a well-established international network and a wide breadth of knowledge of climate change research across the natural and social sciences and the humanities.

Specifically, the position will suit someone who has:

previous editorial experience, and is not (or would not be) currently serving as an Editor for another journal

the capacity to devote a day per week to the journal

a wide breadth of knowledge that encompasses the WIREs Climate Change topics

the expertise that allows them to make editorial decisions on manuscripts across the breadth of the natural and social sciences

a clear understanding of the encyclopedic nature and curation aspects of WIREs
WIREs is owned by Wiley and published in partnership with Society and the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS). The new Editor will be appointed by Wiley and is expected to start in September 2022, allowing some overlap. The full recruitment process and final decisions on the appointment will be run/made by Wiley. The Editor in Chief position is remunerated.
