If a friend, family member or colleague has recommended you join the Society, you can find out more about our categories below. Once you've found the right membership for you, simply complete the relevant form (including the membership number of whoever referred you), and return it to membership@rgs.org to redeem the offer and activate your new membership.
Joining us as a Fellow will give you access to professional accreditation and recognition, networks of other people using geography in their profession, resources and much more.

Our Members have an enthusiasm for geography and an appetite for lifelong learning. Members gain access to around 30 Monday night lectures a year as well as Geographical magazine, and our events and exhibitions.

An Associate Fellowship gives access to support, resources and networks tailored to your needs whether you're in postgraduate study or early in your professional career.

Becoming a Student Member gives school and undergraduate geography students access to resources that support their learning and development in a variety of ways including regular talks, events and online access to Geographical magazine.

An existing member shares this offer with someone they know who they think would enjoy being a member
The existing member provides their friend with their membership number to quote when completing the joining form
The friend completes the form, along with payment details, for the membership category that matches their interests and sends it to membership@rgs.org
They include the membership number of the person who referred them so that we can give them both 15 months of membership for the price of 12
Those who have been referred and are joining as a Fellow will not pay a joining fee
Once the new member's application has been processed they will receive an email confirmation that their membership is active and a letter with their new membership card valid for 15 months
The existing member will have 15 months of membership for the cost of 12 applied upon their next renewal
Existing members can refer as many new members as they want, but will only have the 15 months for the cost of 12 offer applied once
