What does last summer’s vote for Brexit tell us about society in the UK today? Join in the discussion at the Society’s latest 21st Century Challenges Policy Forum event.
Professionals from think-tanks, local and central government, academia and practice will be discussing economic and social equity in the United Kingdom at the free event at the Society on the evening of 16 March.
Differences in voting patterns between groups in society reveal differences in opinion about quality of life and opportunity, at a time when some communities in the UK have been ‘left behind’ by social and economic progress.
In January, Prime Minister Theresa May set ‘a stronger economy and a fairer society’ as a key objective of the UK’s negotiations to leave the European Union, with a process of ‘genuine economic and social reform’ leading to a country ‘more united’.
An expert panel, chaired by Nicholas Hellen of the Sunday Times, will discuss what ‘genuine economic and social reform’ means for people and places across the UK, how this can address inequalities in opportunity, and how communities can be empowered to address the challenges they face.
A drinks reception will follow the panel discussion and audience Q&A.
