Alison was a Professor of Economic and Cultural Geography at Edinburgh Napier University, well recognised across the UK social sciences sector. She was recognised for developing innovative approaches to doctoral education and supporting the career development of doctoral and early career researchers. And through her work with various research bodies she was at the forefront of subject developments. Alison published extensively in the broad area of economic, social, and cultural development of the North Atlantic periphery, with major research projects both individually and through funded research partnerships.
