With London Fashion Week fast approaching, join us for a discussion about the impact of the fashion industry on our planet and what we can all do about it.
Fashion is frequently in the headlines for the wrong reasons as our discarded clothes end up in landfill sites after just one wear, fragments of plastic fibres from laundry flow into the sea, and clothing production has become a major source of greenhouse emissions. In fact, a parliamentary committee recently named and shamed six major fashion retailers for not doing enough to reduce their environmental impact.
This can all seem overwhelming and insurmountable, however there are plenty of possible solutions. Author of To Die For: Is Fashion Wearing out the World and TV presenter, Lucy Siegle, and director of Savile Row tailor Norton & Sons and founder of Community Clothing, Patrick Grant will be joined by the Carbon Trust’s lead on sustainable fashion, Pauline Op de Beeck as they share their thoughts, opinions and evidence on how the fashion industry can become more sustainable.
The panel will address key questions such as where our clothes come from and how they’re manufactured as well as considering the environmental and societal impacts of our love of fashion. They will also ask whether sustainable fashion has a future in the UK.
