Dr Rory Horner, University of Manchester, has been awarded the 2014 Wiley Publisher’s Area Prize for his paper examining the challenges and opportunities involved in cross disciplinary research at postgraduate level.
Each year Area, one of the Society’s academic journals, awards the Wiley Publisher’s Area Prize for the best article by an early career researcher published in the journal. The winning paper is made free to access via the Area Wiley Online Library for 12 months, and the recipient receives a £500 cash prize.
In his winning paper, entitled ‘Postgraduate encounters with sub-disciplinary divides: entering the economic/development geography trading zone’, Dr Horner draws on his PhD fieldwork in India to show how research that cuts across two traditional sub-disciplinary divides can result in richer geographies of development
Commenting on Dr Horner’s paper, the co-Editors of the journal, Dr Kavita Datta, Professor Peter Kraftl and Professor Paul Wood, said: “This paper engages with key conceptual debates and, using a case study of the Indian pharmaceutical industry, illustrates the challenges and opportunities associated with intra and interdisciplinary research".
Dr Horner’s achievement will be recognised at the Society’s annual Medal and Awards ceremony, which takes place on 1 June 2015.
