The Society’s 45th annual fieldwork and planning seminar this November is a weekend for anyone aspiring to undertake original geographical field research.
Explore is the perfect opportunity to learn from those who have undertaken field research and expeditions with a purpose, and this year is no different. The focus is on small projects with a research component, but anyone planning expeditions or fieldwork is welcome to join.
Our speakers include marine biologist Andreas Heide and photojournalist Hugh Anderson who have recently returned from the 5,000 nautical mile sailing and research expedition, Arctic Sense; Richard Pyshorn will talk on using acoustic sensors to protect Belize’s tropical forests; world renown glaciologist Jemma Wadham, and PhD student Sarah Tingey will discuss fieldwork before and during the pandemic; behavioural coach Scott Johnson will explore connection, purpose and wellbeing; and wildlife TV presenter and conservation biologist Niall McCann, will tackle the closely-linked triple threats of climate change, biodiversity loss and new infectious diseases.
They will be presenting and facilitating workshops along various themes such as environment specific logistics; designing field research projects in the earth, environmental and social sciences; and communicating discoveries through a wide variety of creative media.
Explore 2021 will take place in person and online on both Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 November.
Book before Friday 29 October to take advantage of our early bird ticket prices, which start at £75 for in person attendance, and £40 to watch the main talks online.
