Discovering Britain, the Society’s series of geographically themed walks, has received an award from outdoor adventure app ViewRanger. Discovering Britain has been named a ‘ViewRanger 2018 Top Publisher’ in the annual awards which recognise ‘interesting, engaging, and high quality trail guide content’ on the app.
The Discovering Britain website has over 400 walks, viewpoints and aerial photographs. The activities are designed to showcase and encourage people to explore Britain’s diverse landscapes. All of them are free and self-guided.
Caroline Millar, Discovering Britain project manager, said: "By publishing our routes on ViewRanger, we’ve been able to reach even greater numbers of people, helping them to engage more deeply with Britain’s geography”.
The ViewRanger app allows anyone with a smartphone to access the routes, and more importantly the geographical stories they tell, while out and about. The routes are also available offline, making them ideal in areas with poor mobile phone reception.
The Discovering Britain walks in the North West and South West of England are available on ViewRanger now, with other regions being added throughout the year. Next to launch are the routes in Wales, which will be available on the app by the end of May.
With May being National Walking Month, this is the perfect time to visit the Discovering Britain website. Whether you’re looking for somewhere new to explore or want to revisit a favourite place, there are activities to suit all ages, interests and abilities.
