The Society congratulates geography Professors Robert J. Mayhew, Katherine Gibson and Brenda S.A. Yeoh on their recent election as British Academy Fellows. They join a further 84 other academics elected to the Academy this year in recognition of their outstanding achievements and contributions to the humanities and social sciences.
Robert J. Mayhew is Professor of Historical Geography and Intellectual History at the School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol. His research interests lie in the interface of historical geography and intellectual history, in particular the intellectual history of British geography books, demography and migration, c 1660-1900.
Professor Katherine Gibson is based at the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University. Her research investigates feminist economic geography, theorising diverse economies, poststructuralist participatory action research, community economic practices and place-based development in Australasia and postcapitalist politics.
Brenda S.A. Yeoh is Raffles Professor of Social Sciences, Department of Geography, as well as Director, Humanities and Social Science Research Office of Deputy President (Research and Technology) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Her research focuses on migration and development in Asia, migration, family and social reproduction, and transnational migration and cities.
Three honorary Fellows have also been elected including geographer Simon Armitage CBE FRSL, the Poet Laureate and Professor of Poetry at the University of Leeds.
These leading geographers join a community of over 1,400 of the leading minds that make up the UK’s national academy for the humanities and social sciences.
