Supported by the Department for Education, the Society is offering 80 Geography Teacher Training Scholarships for eligible geographers starting their teacher training in September 2017.
The Geography Teacher Training Scholarships provide outstanding trainee geography teachers with significant financial and professional support, including £27,500 tax-free funding; CPD opportunities and networking events; a residential fieldwork course; teaching and learning materials; and Fellowship of the Society.
After a successful second assessment day on Friday 27 January, the Society is delighted to have been able to award the first 16 scholarships. The successful Scholars have demonstrated both outstanding geographical knowledge, and a clear aptitude and passion for teaching.
One scholarship recipient, Jordan Williams, said: ‘I see being a geography teacher as both a vocation and an opportunity to make a positive different to the futures of young people. As a Scholar, I feel privileged knowing I will receive invaluable support and input from the Society.’
Lydia Tillery, another scholarship recipient, commented: ‘With the Society’s scholarship, I feel hugely supported to inspire the next generation of geographers, and part of a community of people that share the same passion.’
If you are interested in getting into teaching, and can meet the requirements necessary to succeed as a geography teacher, the Society encourages you to apply for a scholarship. Applications are being reviewed on a rolling monthly basis.
