The number of students being entered for geography GCSE and A Level exams in England in 2022 has increased compared to last year, with geography GCSE entries at their highest for 20 years.
Provisional candidate numbers for this year's GCSE and A Level geography exams show growth above the average for all subjects, according to recent figures from Ofqual.
Geography is now the fifth most studied GCSE subject in England, with entries rising by 4% to 279,000. This is the highest number of geography entries at GCSE since 2001, with the annual growth outpacing the 0.9% increase in entries across all subjects.
A Level geography exam entries increased by 7.7%, with 34,000 students registered. This annual growth is also above the 4.2% increase for subjects in general.
