Professor David Bellamy OBE was a well-known and beloved populariser of geography and science. His kind and friendly manner granted him a wide audience during his broadcasting career. He was a Fellow of the Society for over 30 years.
Previously, he worked for the botany department of Durham University, where he conducted research into the 1967 crude oil spill in the South-West.
David was later recognised for his conservation work in Durham, New Zealand and Malaysia. He promoted education in environmental cleanliness and plastic recycling, while also writing over 45 books, covering the botanical and natural sciences.
