Rob Potter, Professor Emeritus at the University of Reading, has died. A Fellow of the Society since 1980, Potter was a leading academic in the areas of urban and development geographies, and served on the committees of the Society’s Developing Areas, Higher Education, and Social & Cultural Research Groups. Previously Professor of Geography and Head of Department (1994-1999) at Royal Holloway, University of London, Potter joined Reading in 2003 and later became Head of the School of Human and Environmental Sciences. An elected Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences, Potter was awarded the higher doctorate degree of DSc by the University of Reading for his contributions to the fields of geographies of development and urban geography, with particular reference to Caribbean development studies.
