The Society’s academic publications are profiled through a number of exciting events at this year’s RGS-IBG Annual International Conference.
Geo: Geography and Environment will sponsor an interactive plenary panel on Digital Data: Opening up the Weather Archive, convened by Georgina Endfield (The University of Liverpool), Lucy Veale (The University of Liverpool) and Sarah Davies (Aberystwyth University) on Wednesday 30 August. An associated exhibition featuring materials from the Society’s Collections will be on display, and a Data Paper will be published in advance of Conference. All Geo papers are free to access online.
An author meets critics session will be held for Steve Hinchcliffe, Nick Bingham, John Allen and Simon Carter’s RGS-IBG Book Series title Pathological lives: disease, space and biopolitics, also on Wednesday 30 August.
Matthew Sparke (University of California, Santa Cruz, USA) will give the Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers lecture on Thursday 31 August. Matthew’s lecture is entitled Safe space across borders: from geopolitical projection to refugee health protection, and Jo Sharp (University of Glasgow) responds as discussant.
Area will co-sponsor a panel session and workshop with the Race, Culture, and Equality Working Group on Decolonising institutional arrangements: insights from the arts, education, and policy, also on Thursday 31 August and convened by Margaret Byron (University of Leicester), James Esson (Loughborough University) Anja Kanngieser (University of Wollongong), Peter Kraftl (University of Birmingham), and Patricia Noxolo (University of Birmingham).
A series of articles that engage with the conference theme have been published in Transactions and Area. These are free to access until August 2018.
