The Society are delighted to once again partner with AuthorAid to provide writing support to researchers based in low- and middle-income countries, with targeted additional support for researchers based in the Caribbean. AuthorAid’s award-winning online research writing courses have trained over 11,000 participants since 2015.
Course overview
The upcoming free online course Research Writing in the Social Sciences is designed for those working in the social sciences and is suitable for early career researchers, or those with limited experience publishing papers in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
The course will run for seven weeks from 5 July and participants typically spend about five hours per week on the course. Participants can study in their own time whenever convenient, and the course is free to individual participants. Those who meet the completion criteria will receive a PDF certificate with a unique verification code to prove its authenticity.
Additional support for Caribbean scholars
Research from Caribbean scholars remains underrepresented in the Society’s journals, therefore we are providing sponsorship for the course to allow geographers based in the Caribbean to join a special cohort with additional support. This aligns with other Society activities including our partnership with CARICUK and the Rob Potter Award.
Those in this Society cohort will be able to access additional areas, learning resources and optional modules within the course.
Selection for the cohort will be in early July and we will let you know if you have been selected at that time.
To be eligible for this additional cohort you should be either based in the Caribbean, or based in another mid/low-income country and working on the Caribbean. However, even if you are not selected for this cohort, you will still be part of the open group in the AuthorAID course.

Enrolment instructions and to be considered for the Society's cohort
Step 1: Go to our INASP Moodle website.
If you already have an account, please go to step 2.
If you are new to INASP Moodle, create an account by clicking 'Create new account' and read the site’s privacy and digital safeguarding policies.
Complete the short form and provide your email address. You will get a confirmation email and you must click a link in that email to confirm your account and start using INASP Moodle. If you do not receive the confirmation email, please check your junk or spam email folder.
Step 2: Once you’ve signed into your account on INASP Moodle, please visit the course information page.
Step 3: Ignore any enrolment key that might be mentioned at the end of the course information page. This is only for participants joining the open version of the course. You should enter the following string in the field under 'enrolment key': AA-MOOC-RGS
To be considered for the Society cohort, please complete the pre-course survey on the course homepage before 24 June. Space is limited for this additional element, and preference will be given to Early Career Researchers based in the Caribbean, followed by those based elsewhere but working on the Caribbean.
