Sybil Sassoon, a long-serving Fellow of the Society, and one of the core National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS) volunteer team in the Foyle Reading Room, passed away on Friday 6 December 2013 after a long illness. A familiar face around the Society for many years, Sybil not only provided the Collections with a great deal of help through her paper conservation work, but also shared her photographic expertise with us; many images taken during her extensive travels are now housed in the Society’s Picture Library. Sybil’s photographic work also contributed to the etched glass balustrade on Exhibition Road where two of her images: the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica and the Central Island Craters, Lake Turkana, Rudolf, Kenya appear.
