Join the Society and chair Jonathan Dimbleby for an ‘Any Questions’-style debate on the future for the environment of the UK – out of the European Union.
People, politics and the planet: any questions? will be the first opportunity for a public audience to question leading politicians and commentators from across the political spectrum on the future of environmental policy in the UK in the aftermath of the EU Referendum.
The UK voted by a margin of 52% to 48% to leave the European Union. As a new relationship between the UK and Europe is negotiated, the EU frameworks that have underpinned much of the UK’s environmental policy and legislation are no longer assured.
Join the audience on 21 July to explore what environmental policy will look like outside of the EU. What challenges and opportunities does ‘Brexit’ pose to the environment? Come along and find out how leading policy-makers suggest we tackle long-standing international environmental challenges – from biodiversity loss, to climate change, to air pollution – under a new political agreement.
Chaired by broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby, the event promises robust, lively and timely discussion.
The debate will be followed by a drinks reception and the opportunity to view the Atkins CIWEM Environmental Photographer of the Year exhibition.
Confirmed panellists:
- George Eustice, Conservative Party: Minister of State for Farming, Food and the Marine Environment
- Kerry McCarthy MP, Labour Party
- Baroness Kate Parminter, Liberal Democrats: Spokesperson for Environment and Rural Affairs
