Explorations in the Plastisphere is the title of the new photo exhibition promoted in the series of public engagement activities by Dr Chiara Certomà ’s research team DIGGEO@ESOMAS at the Department ESOMAS – University of Turin (Italy) documents new hybrid ecologies of the plastisphere, a collective of plastic-colonising organisms, as well as various anthropic debris in marine environments (including relicts, ghost nets, and polluted sites…). Underwater photographer Giuseppe Lupinacci/Raw News, with the technical support of independent video-maker Federico Fornaro, director of the Italian Naval League- Anzio and of Raw-News media agency, and Davide Rinaldi, director of the diving centre Capo D’Anzio, documented in 16 amazing shoots the emerging ecologies of the plastisphere in some spots of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The exhibition proposes an unconventional perspective on one of the most cogent issues of our time, i.e. the marine plastic pollution, by visually investigating the new hybrid ecologies emerging on the plastisphere, a collective of plastic-colonising organisms (biofilms, organisms that stick to each other and other things), including bacteria and fungi and complex ecosystems, that have evolved to live on microplastics, and various anthropic debris in marine environments (including relicts, ghost nets, infrastructures, and polluted sites…).

- Predictive Cities by Manu Luksch. Exhibition Road Digital Screen
We live in an age of unprecedented quantification – never before have cities, and our lives, been subject to so much probing, measurement, and analysis, enabling a shift towards automation and machine learning. Multi-sensory, hyperconnected, algorithmic systems are bringing sweeping changes to the urban fabric, and all our daily lives. The video Predictive Cities emerged out of a period of workshops, papers, and online tools published here http://predictive.cityabc.xyz
Recognizing the urgent need for a new visual language to represent the contemporary, data-driven ‘predictive city’, I have developed a hybrid method using photogrammetry, volumetric filmmaking, and code-based manipulation. For the creation of the urban scans, I mapped neighborhoods of Dakar, Senegal, Abu Dhabi, UAE and Silicon Valley. Through its auratic and poetic use of computational imaging technologies, the piece questions the limitations and errors of algorithmic representations.
