Conference buildings
Parallel sessions will take place at five venues: the RGS-IBG building (RGS), and four buildings at Imperial College London; the Sir Alexander Fleming Building (SAF), Skempton Building (SKE), the Seminar and Learning Centre (SALC) on level 5 of the Sherfield Building, and the Electrical Engineering Building (XELE). A map of the conference buildings is available here.
The online programme has details of the room for each session.
Getting to session rooms at the RGS-IBG
Pavilion

This is the glass addition to the old building on Exhibition Road. This is where you can pick up your registration badge when you first arrive, find the Exhibitors, and see the posters.

Enter the main (new) entrance on Exhibition Road and go through the glass door into the space on the left.
Ondaatje Theatre

From Registration, walk down the corridor past the Cloakroom.
-
The Ondaatje Theatre is in front of you.
Council Room
-
From Registration, turn right and walk down the corridor past the Cloakroom.
-
Upon reaching the Ondaatje Theatre, turn right and walk to the stone staircase.

Go up the stone staircase to the first floor.
-
Go past the entrance to the Ondaatje Theatre balcony (on your right), and through the doors to a small corridor.
-
The Council Room is immediately on your left.
Drayson Room

From Registration, turn right and walk down the corridor past the Cloakroom.

Upon reaching the Ondaatje Theatre, turn left and go up the short staircase (blue carpet).

At the top of the stairs, walk straight ahead past the two large wall maps and the display cases.

The Drayson Room is at the end of the corridor (the Ambulatory) on your left.
Sunley Room

From Registration, walk down the corridor past the Cloakroom.

Upon reaching the Ondaatje Theatre, turn left and go up the short staircase (blue carpet).

At the top of the stairs, turn left and walk straight ahead.

The Sunley Room is on your right (before you go through the doorway into the large hall with the wooden floor).
Education Centre

From Registration, turn right and walk down the corridor past the Cloakroom.

Upon reaching the Ondaatje Theatre, turn left and go up the short staircase (blue carpet).

At the top of the stairs, turn left and walk straight ahead, and keep going past the Sunley Room, into the Main Hall (the larger space with the wooden floor).

The entrances to the Education Centre are on your left.
Tea Room

From Registration, turn right and walk down the corridor past the Cloakroom.

Upon reaching the Ondaatje Theatre, turn left and go up the short staircase (blue carpet).

At the top of the stairs, turn left and walk straight ahead, and keep going past the Sunley Room, into the Main Hall (the larger space with the wooden floor).

Keep going to the far end of the Hall (past the Education Centre) and to your left (just before the stairs) is the Tea Room.
Lowther Room

From Registration, turn right and walk down the corridor past the Cloakroom.

Upon reaching the Ondaatje Theatre, turn left and go up the short staircase (blue carpet).

At the top of the stairs, turn left and walk straight ahead, and keep going past the Sunley Room, into the Main Hall (the larger space with the wooden floor).

Walk the length of the Main Hall to the staircase at the far end (on the left).

Go all the way up the stairs.

At the top of the stairs, turn right. The Lowther Room is in front of you
Nightingale Room

From Registration, turn right and walk down the corridor past the Cloakroom.

Upon reaching the Ondaatje Theatre, turn left and go up the short staircase (blue carpet).

At the top of the stairs, turn left and walk straight ahead, and keep going past the Sunley Room, into the Main Hall (the larger space with the wooden floor).

Walk the length of the Main Hall to the staircase at the far end (on the left).

Go all the way up the stairs.

At the top of the stairs, turn right and then left. Go along the corridor, past the kayak on the wall (left), and turn right through the doors right at the end.
Other spaces being used
Members room
-
From Registration, turn right and walk down the corridor past the Cloakroom.

Upon reaching the Ondaatje Theatre, turn right and walk to the stone staircase.

Go up the stone staircase to the second floor (just keep going to the top!).

Go through the doors and you are in the members room, just keep walking in.
Foyle Reading Room

This is a designated quiet space
-
In the main entrance way run right and as you look ahead and can see the Marquee, and Royal Albert Hall, you will see a staircase going downstairs (there is also a lift, just to the left). This takes you to the Reading Room

You cannot take bags into the Reading Room: leave them at the desk or there are lockers outside.

Absolutely no food or drink in this space, please.
Map Room

From Registration, turn right and walk down the corridor past the Cloakroom.

Upon reaching the Ondaatje Theatre, turn left and go up the short staircase (blue carpet).

At the top of the stairs, turn left and walk straight ahead.

The Map Room is on your left – You will see the door straight ahead to enter the Terrace and Marquee.

Getting to buildings and session rooms at Imperial College
The most direct access between RGS-IBG and Imperial College is to turn right out of the Society’s main entrance, walk straight down Exhibition Road, crossing Prince Consort Road (by the small roundabout) and continuing down Exhibition Road past the main entrance to Imperial College (a large glass atrium). Turn right into Imperial College Road (the next available right, before the Science Museum and marked by the Dyson School of Design and Engineering, and with a barrier part way down the road). Buildings are signposted from there. Short directions are given below, from Exhibition Road.
Buildings marked with * after their name will have tea and coffee served in foyers during the breaks – please follow signs.
Sir Alexander Fleming Building (SAF)*:

Turn right into Imperial College Road, and walk ahead.

The entrance to SAF will be on your left, opposite the Queen’s Lawn on your right (approx. 6 min from RGS-IBG).

Session rooms are on the first floor, accessible via the stairs directly in front of you and the lift (continue straight into the building and turn right to access the lift).
Skempton Building (SKE):
-
Turn right into Imperial College Road, and walk ahead.
-
The entrance to SKE will be on your right, just before you reach the Queen’s Lawn (approx. 6 min from RGS-IBG).

You enter the building on level 1. Session rooms are on levels 0, 1, 2 and 3.
-
There will be additional signage about how to reach SKE-165 (through SKE LT 164).
Sherfield Building (containing SALC)*:
-
Turn right into Imperial College Road, and walk ahead.

When you approach the grass area (on the left), just after the tower covered in a lot of scaffolding, follow the path diagonally across the Queen’s Lawn to the opposite corner. You will be at the entrance to the Sherfield Building.

Session rooms are in the Seminar and Learning Centre (SALC) on level 5 (approx. 8 min from RGS-IBG).

When you get to the fifth floor, SALC is signposted. You will need to go through the small gallery (there are automatic doors and you will need to press the entrance openers), when you exit on the other side of the gallery you will be in SALC.

To find Room 10, look round the corner.
Electrical and Electronic Engineering Building (XELE):

From Exhibition Road use the main entrance to Imperial College (the large glass atrium)

Continue straight through revolving doors through to the courtyard (Dalby Court)
-
The Electrical and Electronic Engineering Building is directly in front of you on the opposite side of the the courtyard.

You enter the building on level 2. Session rooms are on level 4, accessible by the stairs directly in front of you. Please note the lifts to the left of the stairs do not stop on level 4. If you require lift access to level 4, please use the service lift (enter the building and turn right. The lift is in front of you).
