We would like to thank all our Fellows and members for their support throughout this incredibly difficult year. Without it, we would not have been able to maintain the Society’s broad range of influence – from geography in schools and universities, to its application in the workplace and in policymaking – or adapt so quickly to the challenging circumstances.
Since March we have provided teachers with hundreds of online resources and training sessions. We relaunched our Geography Directions blog in early summer to showcase geographical insights and perspectives on COVID-19 and its effects. And we have expanded our support for professionals, with more CPD sessions, an enhanced Chartered Geographer mentoring scheme, and the creation of Professional Practice Groups. We also moved our events programme online, so Fellows and members can now attend our Monday night lectures and talks organised by our regional committees wherever they live.
Looking ahead to next year, once it is safe and government guidance allows us to do so, we will restart in-person events, open the Members’ Room, and enable physical access to the Collections. In the meantime, Fellows and members have access to our library of over 200 event recordings, and can benefit from discounts on books and kit at Stanfords and Cotswold Outdoor (which also includes Runners Need and Snow + Ice stores).
From January, all Fellows will have access to our entire range of online journals included in their subscription. And subscribers to Geographical magazine will automatically get access to the digital edition, which now includes the magazine’s archive going back to the 1930s.
We know that many people are facing hardship, but the support of our Fellows and members is paramount to continuing our work across the breadth of sectors that rely on geographers and geography. If you are able, please do renew when your subscription becomes due.
