Welcome to everyone who is attending the second annual geographers in government conference being held at the Society today.
Founded in 2017, the Government Geography Profession promotes better use of geography in government and supports the career development of geographers in the public sector. Now numbering over 1,000 members across a wide range of departments and agencies in central and local government, the Profession helps create an environment that recognises the significant contribution that geography and geographers make to policy design, analysis and delivery.
The conference will reflect on and celebrate the contributions of geographers across themes including the environment, place-making and geospatial data. It will also enable the sharing of good practice, professional networking and career development.
Head of the Government Geography Profession, David Wood, said “It’s fantastic to be welcoming the biggest ever gathering of public sector geographers at the home of the learned society of geography for our second annual conference. I am very grateful to the Society for their continued support and for working with us to make today such a success.”
The Society is continuing its support for geographers in government, building upon our existing connections with our members to help map a successful future for the profession.
