The Climate Crisis by Mohammad Rakibul Hasan, Overall and People Category winner of Earth Photo 2022
There are just five weeks left to submit your entries to Earth Photo 2023 – submissions are welcome from still and moving image makers of all ages, from anywhere in the world, who have a compelling story to share about our planet.
This year, for the first time, submissions are completely open. We’re encouraging practitioners working in all genres of photography and film to send us submissions that make us think differently about the world around us by capturing nature, people, place, forests, the environment, land and seascapes, or the varied impacts of, and adaptations to, climate change.
Individuals and collectives are encouraged to submit up to 10 images, as singles or a series, or short films between five seconds and five minutes long. Entries should draw attention to the complex challenges facing our planet, celebrate our natural world, or create conversations about the environment.
Previous Earth Photo winners have documented a wide range of topics in their images. Last year’s Overall and People Category winner, Mohammad Rakibul Hasan, portrayed the severe impact of global warming and rising sea levels in his home country, Bangladesh, in his images, The Last Savings at Bengal Delta and The Climate Crisis.
Also new for 2023 is the range of awards, which include:

£1,000 for an outstanding photography project

£500 for a project that explores the impacts of climate change

£500 for an extraordinary submission relating to forests

£250 each plus mentoring opportunities to one photographer and one moving image maker under the age of 25
Submitted photographs and films will be judged by a panel of experts chaired by Louise Fedotov-Clements, National Curator of Contemporary Art at Forestry England and Co-Founder/Patron, FORMAT International Photography Festival.
A selection of shortlisted works will be displayed in our Pavilion from 26 June to 23 August and further exhibitions will take place at Forestry England locations later in the year.
