We are delighted to share our summer events programme, which is full of interesting topics, ideas, and insights.
Kicking off on Monday 3 April, this summer’s Monday night lectures feature another stellar line up of speakers sharing their knowledge and stories from across the discipline of geography. The lecture series begins with a panel discussion exploring the legacy of renowned geographer Esmond Bradley Martin, followed by talks on how to read a tree, and the roles of art, text and creative activism in resisting oppressive regimes. Previously postponed talks on the world’s first major expedition on a coral reef and sanitation in the urban environment will also take place this summer.

We have also organised a number of suppers after Monday night lectures – so why not stay and meet other members and their guests on 3 April, 17 April, and 15 May?
You will also find fascinating talks and exciting excursions taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, organised by our regional committees. Upcoming events include an exploration of past Everest expeditions, the South West’s annual lecture and dinner, and a look at the environmental impact of war on soil geochemistry. Field visits across the country include a city walk around Nottingham, a guided visit to RHS Bridgewater, and a trip to the EDF nuclear power station in Hartlepool. In addition, Kate Rawles will be undertaking a tour of UK regional theatres in June, sharing her adventures on a bamboo bike through the Andes to explore and champion biodiversity.
We also have a wealth of public events taking place at the Society in London and online for you to tune into. On Friday 14 April we will be marking International Night of Geography with GeoNight, where our panel will discuss environmental protections, while Base Camp RGS, on Thursday 25 May, will see our building transformed for an immersive evening with interactive activities, performances and talks linked to our understanding of, and relationship with, mountains.
On Monday 5 June, members are invited to attend our AGM, followed by the Medals and awards celebration, and Annual reception.
You can also join us in South Kensington on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June to enjoy a weekend of free events for all ages celebrating the inspirational power of awe and wonder in science and the arts, in collaboration with 20 neighbouring organisations, which include some of the world’s most iconic museums and institutions.
